The introduction of a football regulator is a pivotal time for clubs and fans alike. The regulator’s requirements will go above and beyond those already set by the Premier and English Football League. More importantly, clubs will be answerable to the regulator. Doing good fan engagement will no longer be enough. Clubs will also have to evidence it and be prepared to have their homework marked.
There is great opportunity here. Fan engagement can serve as a tool to be monetised through deepening fan loyalty and connection. But it has to be done well, to truly convert engagement into revenue.
There will be challenges too. Meeting the new rules will likely require time, money and people – resources often in short supply. There’s also no one-size-fits-all approach. Clubs and fanbases are diverse. A fan engagement framework that works for one club may not be as effective for another. So how do you go about finding what would work best for yours?
Our agenda will include these key issues in the following workshops:
- Why regulation can be good for football – Aaryaman Banerji, Head of Football Governance at Lane, Clark & Peacock (LCP)
- The journey towards better fan engagement – Kevin Rye, Think Fan Engagement
- Basic concepts of public/stakeholder involvement – Rhion Jones, The Consultation Guru
- How we engage with our supporters – Tom Gorringe, CEO, Swansea City FC
- The emerging best practice model for fan engagement – Liam Scully, Lincoln City FC CEO and Kevin Rye, Think Fan Engagement
- The statutory requirement to consult; implications and best practice – Rhion Jones, The Consultation Guru
- Driving fan engagement through a strategic approach to communication – Christopher Haynes, Owner of Gillespie Road Communications and Strategic Communications Consultant, former Director of Communications at Sky Sports/Team Sky/ECB
This event is for you if:
- You’re a communications, engagement or management professional at an English or Welsh football club which will need to meet the Independent Football Regulator’s incoming fan engagement rules.
- You represent football fans for example, through a supporters trust, fan advisory board or shadow board, and want to understand how new regulation may impact your engagement with clubs, get guidance on best practice consultation & communication techniques, and network with others in similar shoes.
- You represent a football governing body, league or organisation hoping to establish or develop an approach to giving fans a voice and embedding fan engagement into your decision-making processes.
